You may hear scratches that threaten to wear out your hard drive, but the grooves run deeper. Issues of “cool” are explored, and your host announces his possible starting song (rather than pitcher) for a possible elimination game.

Once and For All: “I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night” and “Psychotic Reaction” Square Off to Determine the Best Song on the Original Nuggets Compilation

With the Nuggets Divisional Playoff Series completed, only 2 songs remain to determine—once and for all—the Best Song on the Original Nuggets Compilation. The Electric Prunes’ “I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night” outlasted a fierce field on Side 1 and then beat The Nazz’s Side 4 winner, “Open My Eyes” to progress to this round. Count Five’s “Psychotic Reaction,” won Side 3 before readily dashing the dreams of enthusiastic supporters of Side 2’s “You’re Gonna Miss Me,” by The Thirteenth Floor Elevators.

Two songs remain. This Friday, September 2, 2011, only one song will be deemed—once and for all—the Best Song on the Original Nuggets Compilation. For the sake of rock history, please make your vote count!

We all know of odd couplings of producer and artist. Phil Spector and The Ramones—really? But I stumbled across one recently that had me scratching my head—Who thought that would be a good idea? Did you know that Leiber & Stoller produced a Procol Harum album? Procol Harum’s Ninth, to be specific. If there was a “hit” on this album I think it was this:

And if you want to hear one of the worst Beatles covers ever, try this one:

Jerry Leiber must be rolling in his newly dug grave to know this is being discussed in the hallowed halls of RTH.
