Okay, officially every single damn thing in the world is on YouTube. When I was in high school in Lubbock, Texas in the ’80s (specifically Monterey High School, the school in this video), The Nelsons were the kings of the local scene. They also won MTV’s Basement Tapes show one month with this song, and as you can tell from the chyron at the song’s beginning, they apparently also got some airplay on the short-lived but still legendary U68. This, crappy dub quality aside, was The Sound of Lubbock circa 1983-’86.
Considering what their Look promised, that wasn’t bad.
It could have been worse. I resisted watching this, because I assumed you were talking about Nelson, the twin borgs who claimed to be Rick Nelsons sons.
Yes, after Rick’s plane crash, the band learned that the twins were gigging in LA as The Nelsons, and they relinquished the band name. Unfortunately, they changed their name to Unexplained Cattle Mutilations. And that was the last anyone ever heard of them.
Am I wrong in thinking that that’s the next genre of rock video that needs to be affectionately parodied/paid homage to (and hasn’t been yet)? I’m thinking particularly about the really bad blue-screen hijinks and that whole filmic look that I can’t have the technical knowledge to describe.
Question: if you took to dancing in that 80s white person fashion, like in a hip, trendy nightclub… would you be cool? Has enough time passed?
Just wondering.
I mind.
Without a doubt. And if you send me some video of you doing it I’ll see to it that The Back Office posts it pronto for all to marvel.
geez Great! Judging from the scenery, the Smell of Lubbock must of been wowzers too!
