Wow. That seems like a douche move to me. But if they only want one fan, then that’s okay by me.
I didn’t read the whole thing, but my plan is for artists to release one copy, sell it to the highest bidder, then let that buyer distribute it as he or she sees fit: free downloads, digital sales, whatever. The artist signs away the right to bitch about lost royalties, illegal downloads, etc.
OK, just finished reading the piece, through the site’s annoying pop-ups. The museum tour seems a bit excessive, but otherwise this is right in line with my long-proposed, constantly ignored new model for the recording industry. I want to see all artists do it. If it means my band’s albums garner no more than a $50 bid for the masters, then so be it. I’ll move onto my next batch of work and not sweat the reality of the market. Bravo!
