What’s Robert Fripp thinking while Joe Satriani and Steve Vai join him for a take on the King Crimson classic “Red?” Is this his version of watching a couple of guys do his wife?

Sorry, that was rude of me, but to my dismay I also stumbled across this:

Well, as to the adultery analysis, I think he must at least get the satisfaction of seeing that the other guys do things faster and with less style. The offenses in that one, for me, start with the drumming, and then make their way down through “Look”, including sunglasses and unitards and what not, and a lot of 2-dimensional playing at “11.” Ugh.

As to the other video, I think the clear star of that number is her pronounced lisp, which is utterly captivating.

Fripp’s thought bubble: This wasn’t what I meant when I went on and on about “highly mobile, independent and intelligent units” in the 80s.

I’m sure he’s glad he’s sitting in the back, because that way he can’t see the guitar porn faces while those two are doing his red wife.

“Where can I cash my check??????” I dunno. Perhaps Fripp actually relished the idea of exposing himself to a new audience by touring with those two. Crimson did tour as an opening act for the band Tool several years ago. I’ve read interviews where he has stated that it is financially ruinous for him to tour on his own, and he does like to take detours into the mainstream PoP world, now & again. Ugh…

As for the Humans, I am embarassed to admit that the other 3/4 of the band hail from my neck of the woods. There is no excuse for that. Plus the singer is somebody’s Grandmother, don’cha know?

Oooohhh, and as I have recently struggled to understand the Sam Ash Sound, would others agree that Mr. Steve Vai provides a perfect example????

YES, jeangray, Vai is a leading light in the Sam Ash Sound. I haven’t read that post in a long time – and unfortunately its author is on yet another extended hiatus from the Hall to best explain it – but I think of it as an out-of-the-box, poor man’s version of the Eddie Van Halen sound.

I didn’t know Wonder Woman’s mom was in a band. Why does her costume have a belly button molded into it? It looks like it’s hard plastic, so it’s not necessary, is it?

I’m starting to think I don’t like Robert Fripp even when he’s good.

    yeah man me too!

like the AWFUL far outweighs the half-decent at this point right?

maybe a few Crimson albums and a little bit of his stuff with Eno & David Sylvian i can dig. The rest, not so much
