I found this show tune track on the B-side of a Thrifty Music single from a Mystery Date-caliber artist, and was so impressed I tracked down the album in CD form. It’s not consistently good, but I’m glad I own it. So: this is both my entry into the Show Tune Hall Last Man Standing battle, and my Mystery Date challenge to you all. Who is this guy? For extra credit, tell me who produced the tune. Hint: he shows up in the RTH menu bar with some frequency.
I look forward to your responses.

Is that Rod Torfulson’s Armada featuring Herman Menderchuck?
I could see Burton Cummings trying something like this. Shockingly, whoever this is, it’s not terrible.
He just showed up in the banner and I was wondering…Did Robert Conrad produce this?
CDM: No.
Mod: No, it’s not terrible. I actually find myself liking it. The “There’s a Place for Us” section in particular is pretty smashing.
Geo: excellent question, but, no.
Here’s another clue for you all: The guy who produced this is wearing a *killer* pair of shades in the banner image.
Keep those guesses coming — I feel certain you’ll be surprised when you hear who this is.
It’s not Jeff Lynne producing Del Shannon, is it? (Did they work together in the ’80s?)
I think that was Tom Petty who produced Del Shannon.
Wow, Al and Mod: you’re both wrong, but also a little bit right. Shannon isn’t the artist, but rather the *producer*.
Here’s another clue for you all: this artist is best known for a very silly novelty hit from the very early 60s.
CDM, thanks for the KITH reference…

I think I know who this is now, but I’ll keep my trap shut so that others may continue to ponder our Mystery Date. Nice one, Hrrundi!
“CDM, thanks for the KITH reference…”
I have to acknowledge Big Steve’s contribution here. I had never heard of RTAfHM until he mentioned it a while back, and I’ve been laughing about it ever since.
Hey, Mod —
Go ahead and muster a guess. You need the glory, and I sense this challenge is wilting on the vine. Anybody else actually give this a listen? You may be surprised when you do. It’s better than you think.
Is it Bryan Hyland, or whatever that guy’s name is? He did “Itsy-Bitsy Polka-Dot Bikini,” or whatever that song’s called, right?
Like you, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of adventure taken by Townspeople when presented by this opportunity, but I sense that Facebook’s Top 5 Catchphrases from Hanna-Barbera Cartoons app may have occupied some Townspeople’s attention.
DINGDINGDINGDINGDING! You are correct, Mr. Moderator! Look for your No-Prize in the mail. I’ll post a few more Hyland tunes later tonight. Some of the other songs on his over-rated eponymous album from 1970 are actually pretty good.
I like this. Betcha I’d like the over-rated one too…
