To celebrate the software upgrade to Rock Town Hall, here are a few downloads that were uploaded to the site with ease…thanks to the upgrade! Workers in The Back Office know what I’m talking about. Mad props to the IT/design staff.
Lightnin’ Hopkins, “Coffee House Blues”
Baby Grandmothers, “Being Is More Than Life”
Sun Ra, “Music from the World Tomorrow”
Watching this I’m reminded of a special quality that Tina Weymouth brought to her stage presence: she always looked at Byrne in a very earnest, eager-to-please manner. As a bassist (and don’t think I’m being sexist here, because I’m about to balance it out), she really knew her place. I think more rhythm section musicians should play to their singers, look right at them with a look that says, “How am I doing? Is this the way you like it?” Fernando Saunders and Fred Maher used to do this when they played with Lou Reed. I’ll have to think of other rhythm players who’ve mastered this art of subservience and respect.
Someone mentioned “The Last” in a comment today. I’m a fan of Dream Syndicate but find the Three O’clock and Green on Red sadly lacking. But what about The Last? Worth a couple of bucks?
HOOKER!!!
