Chances are we’ve all used rock ‘n roll as a vehicle for working out some taboo desire. Whether you’d like to think you’re deep into black coffee, brown sugar, white honey, or simply wanna be black – or a boy or a girl or a male model or what have you – what’s a song that’s helped you unlock a rock ‘n roll fantasy? No joke. It can just as easily be a nice fantasy. And sure, you’ll have to share something about yourself, but ultimately that’s the point of this place. Happy Thanksgiving!

I suppose all the boogie/metal rock I love (AC/DC, Supagroup, Upper Crust, Motorhead, etc.) is a means to facilitate feeling like the flinty-eyed, chain-smokin’, fight-pickin’ bad-ass I’m not.

By the way, Marriott’s wink-wink-nudge-nudge-ing in that video is cringeworthy in the extreme.

Hope everyone’s enjoying their holiday weekend – or our US holiday weekend, if you’re ex-US!

The Rolling Stones have supplied me with much of my most meaningful rock ‘n roll fantasies, especially their ability to dominate women who’ve driven most men (like myself) to their knees (eg, “Under My Thumb”) and their ability to party all night long (eg, “Rocks Off”), which I was better at actually doing in my youth. Thank you, Stones.

I guess I had a fantasy in my misspent youth of wanting to be a Guitar-GAWD. How else to explain my obsession with Hendrix, Beck, Clapton, Gilmour, Van Halen, etc.?? I saw Steve Vai in the 80’s and wanted to have his baby! Seriously… That’s f’ed up!

In my teens I took guitar lessons, and after six weeks when I’d only mastered “Louie, Louie,” I threw in the towel. I did however, learn to play a mean air guitar.

I think I was well into my late 20’s-early 30’s before I got over this particular obsession. Though I must admit that I still listen to a lot of guitar based musik.

Nowadaze, if I fantasize about playing any instrument it’s drums or bass guitar. I think I would have Stanley Clarke’s baby. Seriously!

P.S. Perhaps I’m not as over it as I’d like to think. As I’m a-writing this, a Beck & Clapton duet bootleg comes up on my iTunes. Too funny…
