Rare footage was uncovered of Booker T & The MG‘s performing live in 1968 at Urges in Atlantic City. This is smokin’ hot stuff, too hot to place anywhere but after the jump…

The glittery cleavage woman looks like every woman who has ever danced with me. I don’t mean the overall hotness. I just mean they never smile and have a blank look like I’m the most boring thing they ever encountered. Still, it’s a good look.
Speaking of impalement I cringed watching the woman in the orange sweater (who appeared to be dancing with the loud pants guy) fearing she would poke out her eyes with her own thumbs.
But seriously, I found this clip to be utterly mesmerizing and I’ve now probably watched it at least six times. I guess what is fascinating to me is that I don’t think I’ve ever before seen a candid film (I am assuming it is candid) of such quality and clarity from that period. I really enjoyed seeing how the audience is dressed, how they danced and how they interacted with the band. It’s great watching the band perform too…they’re terrific and seem very natural – not show boating for the camera. It’s a real time capsule.
No crowd in Atlantic City *ever* looked this good!
As you know Mr Mod, this is one of my all time favorite clips. If I were throwing my last party on earth, that’s the band I’d want.
Yes, I thought I first learned of this through you.
Lots of Jack Daniels baggies in evidence.
And if I had to dance with the guy with the vest and loud trousers, I think I would have to impale myself on the mic stand.
This was the clip I posted here in The Hall when Duck Dunn died.
So maybe the turn-on points are due to you! If so, my apologies.

Another reminder that I grew up in the wrong decade.
